Is San Francisco making a comeback?
In 2020, after living 3 years in California, seeing dead people on my sidewalks and having colleagues being shot in broad daylight, I had enough and left the state. It was time to face reality: San Francisco became a shithole. And this is only because of what its constituents voted for.
I told myself to never settle in this state ever again.
Until I visited a few weeks ago and noticed positive changes.
Almost no homeless on market street. Driverless Waymo everywhere. Shops slowly reopening. The real-estate market significantly decreased in the past few years. And it’s now possible to own a property larger than a parking space.
Is San Francisco making a comeback? It’s too early to tell. But from the gold rush area to the summer of love to the tech boom, this city knows how to transform and adapt. Perhaps we are witnessing the early chapters of its next evolution.
Visiting the city the past few weeks made me remember what my grandmother used to say: “never say never”.
