In 2020, one of my Twitter colleagues was shot dead one evening. A few weeks later, I walked into the Tenderloin in San Francisco and saw a man, unconscious, lying on the sidewalk, a needle stuck in his arm. His blood was flowing on the sidewalk. Every day, I saw men and women defecating nearby the Twitter office.
And one morning, as I was going to buy milk at the store in front of my apartment, I saw firemen putting a dead man in a bag within five minutes. This day, I realized this was no longer the city I wanted to live in. It was time to escape California.
I packed all my belongings but did not know where to go.
The evening I gave back my apartment to my landlord, I sat at a brewery in Alameda and looked at potential destinations to go and live. Candidates were: Seattle, Salt Lake City, Austin, and Denver. Denver won.
Colorado brought me everything I needed. Professional projects, friends, and love: I got everything I wished for. I found inspiration for building Codiga. I met people I love who changed my perspective on many topics forever. I was able to focus on building a company and a product. I love my time here.
It is time to move to New York and start a new chapter. This will not be better than Colorado. It will be different.
Thank you, Colorado. It was a wild ride.
And please don’t become California, you are such a great place full of history!
Bon voyage !
Wish everything goes well with your move, Julien!
