What life path to choose?
This picture from Tim Urban lives rent-free in my head.
The left side of the picture is a reminder that you have to be at peace with your past. The past is immutable: you cannot change it, no matter how hard you want it. If you have any regret about what you did, work today to prevent this from happening in the future. Blaming yourself is pointless, and you should focus on the time you have left rather than thinking about the past.
The right part shows that every one of us has a world of opportunities in front of them. We often only think about one or two paths that often mimic what our friends and family do: getting an education, applying to a better job, etc. Instead, we should think and consider all the opportunities in front of us. Be a radical change of career, starting a new project, learning a new skill, getting engaged or divorced, joining a non-profit or planning a one day or a one-year vacation: there are a ton of decisions we can make. Think out of the box and maximize success for yourself.
In the end, our life will follow only one of these paths. We cannot change the past, all we can do is to be bold, build the best future for ourselves and choose the path that is right for us.
